We have a number of Construction Ambassadors in our business, all of whom play a vital role in promoting careers in the construction industry, however,Joiner Alyshia Nimmo is trailblazing the initiative, by training to become not only our first female ambassador, but at 20 years old, she will also be our youngest.
Alyshia joined Neville Joinery in 2017 to complete her apprenticeship with us. Whilst at college, she was awarded the ‘Wood Occupations Intermediate Apprentice Student of the Year 2017’ and has continued to grow in both confidence and experience.
This summer, after mentoring a school student on their work experience placement, Alyshia
applied to become a Construction Ambassador. She was successful in her application and will undergo her training in December.
Alyshia said “I enjoyed mentoring our work experience student and when Neville Joinery asked
for people to apply to become a Construction Ambassador, it was something I felt I could do. Being younger, I can not only explain the options available to young people, but can talk about my own recent experiences as an apprentice.
Being a woman, I can show other young women and girls that they have the same career opportunities available to them too.”
After completing her training, Alyshia will become part of our team of Construction Ambassadors, all of whom talk to young people considering their future career choices, with the aim of inspiring them to take up a career in the construction industry. We have no doubt that she will be able to pass on her skills, knowledge and enthusiasm to a whole new generation of
